NCDEX Appoints Vikas Goel as MD & CEO to Lead Next Phase of Growth
The National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) has announced that Vikas Goel has assumed charge as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective August 1, 2026.
Goel succeeds Dr. Arun Raste, whose tenure as MD & CEO concluded on June 6, 2026 and was subsequently extended through July 31 to ensure a seamless leadership handover.
Who is Vikas Goel?
Goel brings over three decades of experience across treasury, global markets, fixed income, and financial market operations. He most recently served as MD & CEO of PNB Gilts Limited from February 2019 to December 2024, during which time he helped position the firm as the country's second-largest primary dealer in government securities. He also served as Chairman of the Board of the Primary Dealers Association of India during his tenure at PNB Gilts.
His earlier career includes senior executive roles at First Abu Dhabi Bank, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank, and American Express Bank Ltd. He holds an MBA in Marketing and Finance from Ohio State University.
Why this appointment matters
Goel assumes leadership at a pivotal juncture for NCDEX as the exchange prepares to expand its footprint beyond commodities through its proposed entry into the equity and equity derivatives segment. This is a significant strategic pivot for an exchange historically known as India's leading agricultural commodity derivatives platform.
Alongside this, the exchange is poised for growth across its existing and emerging businesses, including the recently launched Mutual Fund Transaction Platform, continued expansion of its commodity derivatives product basket, and a pioneering initiative to introduce weather derivatives.
Our take
The appointment signals NCDEX's intent to evolve from a commodity-focused exchange into a diversified financial market infrastructure player. Goel's background in government securities and capital markets — rather than commodities — is itself a statement about the direction the exchange is headed. His experience building PNB Gilts into a market leader in the primary dealer space suggests he brings the institutional credibility and market-building expertise needed to execute on NCDEX's equity segment ambitions.
For market participants and investors tracking NCDEX as an unlisted opportunity, this leadership transition and the exchange's diversification roadmap are developments worth monitoring closely.
